Students at Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce Fine Arts High School have captured the tragedy unfolding in Gaza through their artwork.
As part of the “Tears of Gaza” project organized by the Provincial Directorate of National Education, students from the school’s painting department produced a series of art pieces.
Twenty-six works reflecting the drama in Gaza were exhibited at the school’s gallery for art enthusiasts to view.
Provincial Director of National Education Erdal Kılınç remarked that the students expressed the suffering in Gaza on their canvases, effectively transforming it into art:
“By depicting a tragedy that is unprecedented in human history—one that resembles genocide—our students are carrying it into the future through their creations. With the vision provided by our educational model, these young people give us hope that future generations will be able to shape our civilization’s outlook. I thank all the teachers and students who contributed.”
Art teacher Hüseyin Yıldırım explained that the project aimed to raise social awareness and a sense of collective responsibility:
“I commend our students for their sensitivity. For years, history has shown there are no real winners in war—only profound suffering and tragedy. The children addressed this issue with great sensitivity and clearly conveyed their feelings. This project involved two and a half months of intense effort.”
One of the students, İrem Hezer, said her painting focuses on a mother and child caught in the midst of war:
“I wanted to convey what they’re going through in my work.”
Emine Ezel Şahin, another student, said she felt the agony of Gaza while creating her piece:
“I was deeply saddened when I imagined how it would feel if the same happened to us, and it was even more painful to realize we can do so little. At least with my painting, I hope to raise some awareness—both for our future and for our brothers and sisters in Gaza.”
